Pink Lakes .. a Strange Spectacle.
For those that want to see something truly unusual, come and see the Pink Lake for yourselves, a strange spectacle which stands out dramatically from the rest!
Fly up the coast from Geraldton to the the sandy shores and brilliant blues of Australia's Coral Coast up to the Pink Lake.
The lake contains a pink hue created by presence of carotenoid-producing algae Dunaliella salina, a source of ß-carotene, a food-colouring agent and source of vitamin A.
The Pink Lake is approximately 70 square kilometres with most of it lying a few metres below sea level and fed by marine waters through springs.
Depending on the season and time of day the hues of Pink will change giving a spectacle of colour. During the Summer months you can see the patterns of pink snake through the white salt of the outer areas of the lake versus the bold colours of the Pink ponds, and in winter see the Pink stretch out along the coastline in brilliant pink.
When we reach the Plink Lake we climb the aircraft ready to view the pink lake from the best vantage point the air! After circling the Pink lake we head back along the coast and over town before returning to Geraldton airport.
